Typical Day
Typical Day
Typical Day
I get ready to start my day in the dynamic and exciting world of Business Analytics. I work as a Data Analyst in a top financial services firm and act as a key resource to my team which manages investigation of past business performance, using data and statistical models, to develop new insights and understanding of future business performance. Our typical day is never typical as one day could be spent on Data Analytics using advanced tools while the other could be doing Predictive Modeling using Linear and Logistic Regression.
10:00 AM
A typical day begins at 10:00 AM with checking up on my mails over the previous day. I received over the previous day. I am currently working with a US Software Giant and am responsible for providing insights to enable marketing for their primary portal. I read the current industry news on our clients.
10:30 AM
I have organized a group meeting to perform the project plan. The discussion is around to create data preparation and different analysis to be performed. We revisit the hypothesis that we defined before conducting the survey. The research project is classified into three categories: Data Preparation, Statistical Analysis and Report Preparation & Presentation. Then we set the deadlines for each tasks and start working on that. Normally, it takes 20-30 days for a Market Research Project.
11:30 AM
I meet the Data Preparation team separately. Data Preparation is very critical for any research project as all the insights are based on the scrubbed and filtered data. A small error can skew the finding drastically. All the data preparation is done in R. I check the availability of the data sets and perform data quality checks.
1:00 PM
I break for lunch with my team colleagues. We chat about the team activities, industry and company updates and current affairs.
2:00 – 4:00 PM
I head into a meeting with the project manager who interacts with clients. We have discussed the project plan in details. I take his inputs and make necessary changes in the plan and action accordingly. Then I head into a meeting with the team members to run them through the updated plan. We also discuss the challenges and impact on the deliverables due to these changes.
4:00 PM
Quick Coffee Break.
5:00 PM
We have a call with the client to find out the project status. I share the data quality checks and analysis deck with them. I also share the built statistical models with them, and if any, note down their suggestions and send him a follow up email with timelines for deliverables.
6:00 PM
I have a call with project representatives in the Australian Legal and Compliance teams to understand the regulatory requirements related to the project.
7:30 PM
Team discussion after call and plan for next day.
8:00 PM
A drop home after a long day.
