The average management consultant salary in India is about โน15 lakh a year in 2026, with base pay ranging from โน4.4 lakh to โน30 lakh. By experience, early-career consultants average โน12 lakh, mid-career โน17.6 lakh and late-career โน18.5 lakh, with top earners reaching โน50 lakh. Business strategy skills lift the average to โน18.2 lakh.
A management consultant salary in India depends on four things: the firm, the city, the domain and how well you deliver. Firms pay more to people who own outcomes, such as the budget, the deadline and the clientโs expectations, than to people who only support the work. Scoping, risk handling and stakeholder management are the skills that lift pay fastest.
Two consultants can share an office, a degree and a client, and still take home very different pay. Itโs rarely about intelligence. Hereโs my take. Firms donโt pay for slides; they pay for outcomes someone will answer for. The sharpest jump on the consulting ladder usually comes when you stop supporting a project and start owning one: the budget, the deadline, and the client who is unhappy by Thursday evening. The title family stays the same, but the pay band doesnโt.
So what does a management consultant salary in India really depend on? Your firm, your city and your domain, certainly. Iโd put delivery ability right beside them, and itโs the only factor on that list you can build on purpose. Scoping, stakeholder handling and risk calls are skills, not personality traits.
If you’d rather start on the delivery side of consulting, the project management course from Imarticus Learning, run with PwC India as knowledge partner, is a four-month way to build that base. It trains the exact muscle that salary reviews reward quietly. The rest of this blog covers what consultants earn at each level, and what actually moves the number.
What Can You Expect With A Management Consultant Salary In India?
You typed a number into Google. You see ten websites tell you what a management consultant earns in India, and you get ten different answers. I know, because I read them all. The short version:
- Management consultant salary figures in India run from roughly โน6-12 lakh a year for a fresher to โน50 lakh and above at senior level (Thinking Bridge, citing Glassdoor, May 2026).
- Levels.fyi says the median across all levels is โน25.7 lakh.
- A fresher is โน6.5 lakh on one page and โน16 lakh on another.
So no, there isn’t one honest figure for the salary of management consultant in India but average ranges based on city, experience, industry, etc. The sooner you stop hunting for the one clean number, the sooner any of this becomes useful.
That’s what this management consultant salary guide is for. Every figure has a source and a date. I flag where the sources fight each other. And I run the tax sums, because the number on your offer letter isn’t the number that lands in your account. It never is.
What you’ll walk away with
- The firm you join moves your pay more than your city or your years of experience.
- Tier-1 MBA freshers are reported at โน25-35 lakh. Non-MBA, off-campus freshers sit at โน6-12 lakh (Thinking Bridge, May 2026).
- A โน25 lakh CTC is about โน1.8 lakh credited a month under the new tax regime. My arithmetic is below, so check it.
First, the management consultant salary by experience level, all in one place:
| Experience | Typical reported range |
| Fresher | โน6-12 lakh |
| 2-5 years | โน12-25 lakh |
| 5-10 years | โน25-50 lakh |
| 10+ years | โน50 lakh and above |

What Does a Management Consultant Do?
A management consultant gets paid to solve a problem a company can’t, or won’t, solve itself. Cost cutting. A market entry. A messy operation. A growth plan that stalled in year two. Mostly it’s analysis, slides and client conversations. The rest is stamina.
“Management consultant” is a job title at McKinsey, a level at Accenture and a vague label at hundreds of boutiques and IT-services firms. Different hiring pools, different billing rates. In the data I read, pay for the same two words on a business card differs by two or three times. Picture two people with identical LinkedIn headlines. One came through an IIM campus drive. The other moved sideways from an IT-services firm. Their offer letters share a title and not much else.

Management Consultant Salary by Experience Level
The five pages I compared disagree on almost every management consultant salary band. So start with the table. The disagreement is the finding.
| Experience bands | Estimated Range |
| Fresher, 2-5, 5-10, 10+ years | โน6-12 LPA, โน12-25 LPA, โน25-50 LPA, โน50+ lakh |
| All levels | Median โน25.7 LPA; middle half โน16.5-32.9 LPA; top 10% above โน41.9 LPA |
| 2-5, 5-10, 10+ years | Averages of โน26.2 LPA, โน31.4 LPA and โน33 LPA |
| 0-2, 3-7, 8+ years | โน8-14 LPA, โน16-40 LPA, โน50+ lakh |
| Entry, senior | โน8-12 LPA, โน20-35 lakh |
Years of experience matter to a management consultant salary. The firm you spent them at matters more. What would I plan around? For two to five years, โน12-25 lakh is the safer band. I’d treat โน25 lakh and above as realistic only if you’re aiming at an MBB firm or the consulting arm of a big services firm. And whatever management consultant salary number you carry into a negotiation, make it a range with a firm attached.
Interesting Insight โ The salary of management consultant in India at the five-to-ten-year mark can be โน25 lakh at one firm and โน50 lakh at another. Both are normal.
Management Consultant Salary Per Month: CTC vs In-Hand
A โน25 lakh CTC works out to roughly โน1.8 lakh credited a month under the new tax regime. A โน12 lakh CTC, about โน1 lakh. That’s the part most management consultant salary pages skip, so I won’t. CTC means cost to company. The whole bill your employer carries for you:
- Fixed pay
- Variable pay
- The contributions made on your behalf.
What reaches your bank account each month is a smaller thing. The number on an offer letter is a CTC, not a deposit. And a management consultant salary per month figure in a job ad is usually that CTC divided by twelve. So when you see one, ask a simple question. Is this CTC over twelve, or what actually gets credited?
Management Consultant Salary in India Per Month by Level
Here’s the arithmetic, so you can catch me if I’m wrong. I used the new tax regime with the FY 2026-27 slabs as BankBazaar lists them (page updated 15 October 2026): nil up to โน4 lakh, then 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% in โน4 lakh steps, and 30% above โน24 lakh. I added a โน75,000 standard deduction, a rebate that makes taxable income up to โน12 lakh tax-free, and 4% cess. I treated the whole CTC as fixed salary and ignored provident fund, professional tax and variable pay.
| CTC | Tax and cess | Take-home a year | Take-home a month |
| โน12 lakh | Nil | โน12.00 lakh | โน1.00 lakh |
| โน25 lakh | โน3.20 lakh | โน21.80 lakh | โน1.82 lakh |
| โน50 lakh | โน11.00 lakh | โน39.00 lakh | โน3.25 lakh |
Two things stand out. Up to โน12 lakh the tax bill is nil, thanks to the rebate. So a โน12 lakh offer is about โน1 lakh a month before provident fund. And doubling your CTC from โน25 to โน50 lakh doesn’t double your take-home. It rises about 79%, from โน1.82 to โน3.25 lakh, because taxable income above โน24 lakh runs into the 30% slab.
Nobody tells you that when you’re celebrating the offer. So, for the management consultant salary in India per month question: a โน25 lakh CTC means roughly โน1.8 lakh credited.
Pro Tip: Compare fixed pay, not just the headline CTC. Two offers with the same CTC can have different fixed salaries and bonus conditions. Ask for the fixed annual amount, variable pay, employer contributions and estimated monthly take-home before deciding which offer is better.
Management Consultant Salary for Freshers
Management consultant salary for freshers runs from โน6-12 lakh off-campus to โน25-35 lakh from a Tier-1 MBA, and the entry route explains almost all of that gap. “Fresher” can mean an IIM graduate hired on campus. It can also mean a commerce graduate applying off-campus. Their pay isn’t comparable, and pretending otherwise is how people end up disappointed.
| Entry route | Reported fresher pay |
| Tier-1 MBA (IIM-level campuses) | โน25-35 lakh |
| Tier-2 MBA | โน10-18 lakh |
| Big 4 consulting or advisory | โน8-15 lakh |
| Non-MBA, off-campus | โน6-12 lakh |
(Source: Thinking Bridge, May 2026)
The top row is real, but it’s rare. Thinking Bridge estimates that fewer than 1-2% of candidates reach that bracket directly. โน25 lakh and above is the top of the funnel, not the norm. For comparison, 6figr lists a fresher at Accenture at about โน16 lakh, self-reported.
What would I do in your place? Pick the tier you’re aiming at, then work backwards. Case-interview practice if the target is MBB. A Big 4 entry route if advisory is the goal. An analytics or operations role you can convert later if neither door opens yet. Outside the top MBA tier, โน8-15 lakh is the reported band for a management consultant salary for freshers. It’s a starting point. Not a ceiling.

Management Consultant Salary by Firm: MBB, Deloitte and the Big 4
The firm decides most of the management consultant salary difference, so this is the section I’d read twice. If the title is a bucket, the firm is the label on it.
McKinsey, BCG and Bain
Thinking Bridge breaks a McKinsey MBA hire into a base of โน18-22 lakh, a performance bonus of โน4-8 lakh and a joining bonus of โน3-5 lakh. That puts total CTC at โน30-35 lakh. BCG and Bain follow similar structures.
Jobaaj gives entry-level ranges of โน20-25 lakh at McKinsey, โน16-22 lakh at BCG and โน18-22 lakh at Bain. The sources don’t agree to the rupee. They do agree on the shape: a solid base, plus a bonus that moves with performance.
The Big 4 – Deloitte, EY, PwC and KPMG
Management Consultant Salary in Deloitte can go upto an average of โน23.8 lakh for 0-8 years. Levels.fyi reports โน23.7 lakh. Two independent datasets landing within about โน11,000 of each other is rare on this topic, so I trust it more than most figures here.
| Firm | Intellipaat average | Levels.fyi average | Jobaaj entry range |
| Accenture | โน31.6 LPA (2-12 yrs) | โน39.4 LPA | โน10-12 LPA |
| Deloitte | โน23.8 LPA (0-8 yrs) | โน23.7 LPA | โน15-18 LPA |
| EY | โน25.1 LPA (2-17 yrs) | โน27.9 LPA | โน14-18 LPA |
| PwC | โน23.4 LPA (1-8 yrs) | not listed | โน12-16 LPA |
| KPMG | โน21 LPA (1-15 yrs) | not listed | โน12-16 LPA |
Sources: Intellipaat (Feb 2026), Levels.fyi (15 Oct 2026), Jobaaj (Aug 2025).
So a management consultant salary at a Big 4 firm lands between about โน21 and โน28 lakh on average across the two datasets. Below Accenture. Well below an MBB package. Accenture is the outlier, and the next section takes the Accenture salary level by level.
Boutiques
Jobaaj puts boutique-firm entry pay at โน10-15 lakh, mid-level at โน20-40 lakh and senior roles at โน50 lakh or more. Boutiques hire fewer people than the Big 4 and publish even less detail, so treat their figures as softer than the table above. If you remember one thing from this section, make it this: a management consultant salary follows the firm tier first and experience second.
Did You Know?
Indeed’s average management consultant salary in India was โน19.64 lakh a year? The estimate was based on just 47 reported salaries and was updated on 2 October 2026. (Source)
Management Consultant Accenture Salary by Level
The management consultant Accenture salary averages โน28.5 lakh across 265 profiles on 6figr (checked 12 October 2026), from about โน22 lakh at Analyst to โน80 lakh at Senior Manager. It’s also where the best level-by-level figures exist.
| Level (years of experience) | Average total pay |
| Analyst (1-5) | โน22 LPA |
| Consultant (4-10) | โน32 LPA |
| Manager (9-14) | โน45 LPA |
| Senior Manager (12-17) | โน80 LPA |
As per 6figr’s averages, the bonus and stock make up nearly one-sixth of pay at Analyst level (โน4 lakh on a โน20 lakh base) and a little over a quarter at Senior Manager (โน22 lakh on a โน61 lakh base). A management consultant salary at the top of the ladder leans harder on performance and firm results than the one at the bottom.
If you’re negotiating a management consultant Accenture salary, anchor on your level and years first. Then ask which band the offer sits in. Compare any management consultant salary you’re offered against your level, not just the company name.

Executive Management Consultant Salary
At director, principal and partner level, reported pay runs from about โน60 lakh to โน2 crore and above, and a lot of it isn’t fixed salary. I use “executive” loosely here: the people who sell the work and answer to the client’s leadership, as opposed to the people building the slides.
| Source | Level | Reported figure |
| Levels.fyi | Top 10% of all levels | Above โน41.9 lakh |
| 6figr | Accenture Senior Manager (12-17 yrs) | Average โน80 lakh; highest reported Accenture figure โน1.17 crore |
| Jobaaj | Senior roles at top firms | โน60-85 lakh and above |
| Thinking Bridge | Partner (10+ yrs) | โน80 lakh to โน2 crore and above |
At this level, the executive management consultant salary stops looking like a salary. Partners generally share in firm profit, so base pay is only part of the picture. CaseBasix describes profit-sharing for partners in the US. The range from โน80 lakh to โน2 crore sounds vague. It’s also the honest answer. A management consultant salary at partner level largely depends on how much business you bring in and how the firm performs, which is how partner economics usually work in consulting. So whenever a page quotes an executive management consultant salary as one figure, ask what it includes.

Project Management Consultant Salary
A project management consultant salary in India sits below the strategy side at the same firms, but the data behind that claim is thin. Different job, too. A management consultant diagnoses the problem and recommends an answer. A project management consultant makes sure the thing actually gets delivered: scope, schedule, budget, risks, people. I found no clean source for a project management consultant salary, so here’s what exists, with its limits labelled.
| Source | What it covers | Reported figure |
| KnowledgeHut | Consulting project managers, India, 2024 rates | Overall โน6-33 lakh; Chennai โน18, Mumbai โน17, Bengaluru โน16 lakh |
| KnowledgeHut | Company averages | Accenture โน17.4 lakh, EY โน15.7 lakh |
| 6figr | Project management consultant at Accenture | About โน11 lakh, a single entry |
Delivery roles look lower than strategy roles at the same firms. KnowledgeHut’s Accenture average is โน17.4 lakh, against โน28.5-39.4 lakh for management consultants on 6figr and Levels.fyi. These skills usually raises your salary potential:
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional)
- Six Sigma Green Belt
If you want the higher-paying route later, delivery experience is a credible way in. A route. Not a shortcut.

Management Consultant Salary by City: Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi NCR
City is the smallest lever on a management consultant salary. Intellipaat’s five cities sit within โน0.6 lakh of each other.
| City | Intellipaat average (2-15 yrs) | Levels.fyi average |
| Bengaluru | โน29.5 lakh | โน26.8 lakh |
| Mumbai | โน29.2 lakh | not listed |
| Pune | โน29.2 lakh | not listed |
| Delhi NCR | โน29 lakh | New Delhi โน29.3 lakh, Gurgaon โน29.0 lakh |
| Hyderabad | โน28.9 lakh | not listed |
Sources: Intellipaat (Feb 2026), Levels.fyi (15 Oct 2026).
Look at the spread, not the ranking. Levels.fyi’s three cities span โน26.8 to โน29.3 lakh. Now compare that with the firm gap from earlier: Accenture at โน39.4 lakh against Deloitte at โน23.7 lakh on Levels.fyi is about โน15.7 lakh. Moving cities barely moves the needle. Moving firms does.
Salary After 3 Years and How to Raise It
After three years, expect โน10-26 lakh depending on the firm. At around year three, the salary of management consultant in India is a range, not a point.
| Source | Level (years) | Reported figure |
| Thinking Bridge | Associate (2-4) | โน10-18 lakh |
| 6figr (Accenture) | Analyst (1-5) | โน22 lakh average |
| Intellipaat | 2-5 years | โน26.2 lakh average |
Which end you land on is mostly about the firm. A management consultant salary at year three is a statement about who hired you. Thinking Bridge’s growth ladder shows why the early years matter, and where the real jump is:
| Role | Experience | Reported pay |
| Analyst | 0-2 years | โน6-10 LPA |
| Associate | 2-4 years | โน10-18 LPA |
| Manager | 4-7 years | โน20-35 LPA |
| Partner | 10+ years | โน80 lakh to โน2 crore and above |
The step to Manager is where pay roughly doubles. Thinking Bridge stresses that promotions follow performance, not the calendar. Sitting in the chair for a fourth year doesn’t count as a strategy.
What actually raises it
Raising a management consultant salary is mostly about moving, not waiting. Five levers, ordered by how much they move the number in the data above. The order is my read, not a measured ranking.
- Firm tier. Levels.fyi has Accenture at โน39.4 lakh and Deloitte at โน23.7 lakh. A lateral move to a higher-paying firm can beat several annual raises.
- A top-tier MBA. Thinking Bridge shows โน25-35 lakh at entry from a Tier-1 MBA against โน6-12 lakh without one.
- Sector depth. Jobaaj says consultants in areas like IT, healthcare and manufacturing tend to earn more because the knowledge is specialised.
- Certifications. Intellipaat names PMP, CBAP and Six Sigma Green Belt. They’re associated with higher pay. Whether they cause it is a different question.
- The fixed share. Your management consultant salary per month is set by the fixed part of the offer, so negotiate that before the bonus.
None of this is a promise. A management consultant salary moves when your firm, your level and your leverage move together.

MBA, CA or Neither: Which Route Pays Most In Management Consultant Salary?
The degree matters less than the door it opens. Here’s what the sources say about each door.
| Route | Entry pay and access (Thinking Bridge, May 2026) |
| Tier-1 MBA | โน25-35 LPA; access to MBB and front-end consulting roles |
| Tier-2 MBA | โน10-18 LPA |
| Big 4 consulting or advisory | โน8-15 LPA |
| No MBA, off-campus | โน6-12 LPA; mostly analyst and back-end roles, slower early growth |
Is an MBA required for a management consultant job? Yes if you get into a top college, questionable if you don’t, given the fees. I’d add one step. Do the sum before you pay for any degree. Put the likely management consultant salary at your target firm next to the fees and the years out of work.
Is CA a required criteria for a management consultant job? A CA can become a management consultant. None of the pages I reviewed gives CA-specific pay, though. My reading is that CAs usually enter through Big 4 advisory work, so the Big 4 band above is the realistic starting point until a specialism lifts it. Their edge is financial reasoning that many strategy graduates have to learn on the job. That’s my view, not a sourced statistic.
Is Management Consulting Worth It Beyond the Salary?
The management consultant salary is the visible part. The hours are the hidden part. Unstop describes consulting as anything but a 9-to-5 job, with frequent travel and extra hours. CaseBasix puts it at 60-70 hours a week in its US comparison with investment banking.
So I ran the numbers. A โน25 lakh package over 65 hours a week for 52 weeks is about โน740 an hour. The same โน25 lakh on a 40-hour week is about โน1,200 an hour. That ignores leave, so the real gap is smaller. The direction holds, though: the hourly rate is roughly 40% lower.
If you want fast learning, a strong name on your CV and wide exit options, often yes. If predictable evenings matter more, a โน25 lakh offer may be worth less than it looks. A high management consultant salary is partly payment for hours you won’t get back, and only you can price those.

- You work hands-on with JIRA, Asana, Microsoft Project and Power BI.
- Faculty include PwC India professionals with 20+ years behind them. Theyโve watched projects go sideways, and theyโll tell you how.
- The roles it points to include project manager, business analyst, scrum master and PMO analyst.
FAQs About Management Consultant Salary
Salary expectations can change with experience, employer and location. These frequently asked questions address common doubts about the management consultant salary, from fresher pay and monthly earnings to company-wise packages and long-term career growth.
Is management consulting a high-paying job?
Yes, management consulting is a high-paying job, though the spread is wide. A management consultant salary starts around โน6-12 lakh for freshers, reaches โน25-35 lakh with a Tier-1 MBA, and passes โน50 lakh at senior level (Thinking Bridge, citing Glassdoor). Firm tier explains most of the gap.
Can a CA be a management consultant?
Yes, a CA can be a management consultant. Chartered accountants commonly enter consulting through Big 4 advisory and finance-focused practices, then move into broader management work. Pay depends on the firm and role, not the CA title, and none of the pages I reviewed publishes CA-specific figures.
Is a management consultant difficult job?
Yes, a management consultant job is demanding. Unstop and Thinking Bridge both describe long hours, heavy travel and promotions that follow performance, not tenure. The work is demanding mainly because every project brings a new client, team and industry to learn quickly.
Can a fresher become a management consultant?
Yes, a fresher can become a management consultant through MBA campus placements, Big 4 entry roles or off-campus analyst jobs. A fresher’s pay ranges from โน6-12 lakh off-campus to โน25-35 lakh from a top MBA, so the route you pick sets your starting management consultant salary.
What are salaries at management consulting companies in India?
Salaries at management consulting companies in India largely depend on the firm tier. Jobaaj puts entry pay at roughly โน16-25 lakh at McKinsey, BCG and Bain, and โน12-18 lakh at the Big 4. Accenture’s management consultant salary averages โน28.5 lakh across levels on 6figr, from 265 profiles.
What is the salary of a management consultant in India?
The management consultant salary ranges from โน6-12 lakh for freshers to โน50 lakh or more at senior level, per Glassdoor-based figures. Levels.fyi shows a median of โน25.7 lakh across 346 submissions. Sources differ because firm tier and title mix differ.
How can a management consultant salary increase?
A management consultant’s salary might increase mostly by changing firm tier, as per the latest Management Consulted 2026 Report, not by waiting for annual hikes. Moving to a higher-paying firm, adding a top-tier MBA, specialising in a sector, earning relevant certifications and negotiating the fixed share of pay all move the number. Firm tier matters most, going by the Levels.fyi company spread.
What salary should one expect after 3 years as a management consultant?
After 3 years as a management consultant, one could expect a salary of โน10-26 lakh depending on the firm. Thinking Bridge lists โน10-18 lakh for associates at two to four years, 6figr averages โน22 lakh for Accenture analysts, and Intellipaat averages โน26.2 lakh. Year-three pay mostly reflects the employer’s tier.ย ย
Turn Management Consultant Salary Data Into Your Next Career Move
There’s no such thing as the management consultant salary. There’s a range with three levers: the firm you join, the years you spend there, and how much of the offer is fixed. City and title come last.
So carry a range, not a point. Ask which firm and level it came from. Do the take-home sum before you celebrate any management consultant salary offer. And treat every page on this topic, this one included, as a snapshot: I compiled these figures on 15 October 2026 from the sources below, and most of them are self-reported.
One more thing. Chasing the biggest number is a fine way to end up with the wrong job. Decide what you’re willing to trade for it first. If project delivery is where you want to build credibility, the Project Management Course covers Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid and Lean Six Sigma over four months and carries 35 PDUs towards PMP eligibility. It does not promise a placement.
