Typical Day
Typical Day
Typical Day
I get ready to start my day in one the most lucrative and dynamic areas of Investment Banking. I work as a M&A analyst in a top investment bank and act as a key resource to my team which manages Mergers and Acquisition transactions as well as Private Equity fund raises on behalf of their clients. One typical day is never typical as one day could be spent creating a pitch while the other could be doing documentation for a $500 million dollar transaction.
8:30-10am
I am in office by 8:30 am because I like to be there for the entirety of the Indian stock market trading day, which lasts from 9:00 am until 5 pm. I quickly mark to market a portfolio for a client call I have later on in the day and then get onto researching an upcoming IPO for our weekly meeting.
10-12pm
I head to a weekly meeting to discuss new products, scenarios and fund performances. We discuss pitching the IPO as well as some trends in the fixed income space, which includes one of our key portfolio products, bonds.
12:30-1:30pm
Get into a call with the client along with my team head. I take him through the performance metrics I put together earlier and my team head pitches the IPO that was earlier discussed and invites him to a golf tournament we are organizing. I take notes on the call to help put together minutes later.
1:30-2pm
I grab a quick lunch. Some days I head out for lunch with a client or prospective client but today looks like a busy day in the office.
2-3.30pm
My boss tells me to update a presentation deck on our offerings as we have a sudden meeting with a prospective client at 4.30 pm at the Four Seasons Hotel in Lower Parel. I get onto preparing the deck and other collateral.
4:30-5:30pm
Meeting with the prospective client as we take them through our product offerings, our unique investing philosophy, and discuss certain asset classes, macroeconomic factors, and specific investments that will suit the client.
6-7:30pm
Back at the office, I send out the minutes of both my meetings to our team and get back to analyzing our portfolios. The best part about the job is that we get to work across asset classes be it Gold or Equities, Vintage wine or Bonds.
7:30-8:30pm
I end the day with a quick call from a client who wants to understand some tax paperwork as he plans to liquidate some of his holdings the next day.
