Must Watch: Amazing Finance Movies

Not every aspect of finance will be known to you by reading books. But just like our courses which combine theory and practical knowledge, there are several movies that demonstrate several aspects of finance in a very entertaining way. Here’s a list of movies that we found entertainment in and learned from at the same time.

 Wall Street

Director: Oliver Stone

Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) is a Stock Broker who idolizes Gordon Ghekko (Michael Douglas), a corporate raider in the stock market until he realizes that Ghekko has an evil plan to dissolve the company and sell off Blue Star’s assets in order to access cash in the company’s overfunded pension plan, leaving Carl (Bud’s father) and the entire Bluestar staff unemployed.

Boiler Room

 

Director: Ben Younger

Boiler room is the story of a college dropout Seth Davis who runs an illegal casino but wants to do more with his life as his father, a federal judge is hugely disappointed with his career. Seth joins JT Marlin, a brokerage firm to please his father but soon realizes that the company is a fraud and actually a chop shop firm when he unknowingly cons one of his clients.

 

Pi

Director: Darren Aronofsky

The film is about a mathematical genius who figures out the numbers in the stock market with the help of a supercomputer at home. Powerful stock brokers attempt to grab that formula from Max.

Catch Me If You Can

Director: Steven Spielberg

The movie is a real life story of Frank Abagnale Jr. who, in this teenage years, was a big time conman by making fake cheques from Pan American Airlines. He successfully breaks out of prison when caught being a fake doctor rand pilot.
