Then there are specialised analytics and research firms, MSCI being one example, where the work leans more technical and research-driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think of a retailer gearing up for a big festive sale. Their data team does the forecasting on a city-by-city basis, identifies products that are likely to sell out first, and provides the operations team with sufficient lead time to replenish the shelves before they are empty. They spend weeks reading comparison articles instead of just picking a lane and starting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s the difference: a data analyst mostly works with data that already exists, answering fairly specific questions someone in the business has already asked. Why did sales dip in the West region last quarter? Which product category is underperforming? That kind of thing.
